KUALA LUMPUR DREAMING
Group Art Exhibition
Presented by The Annexe Gallery, with support from Goethe Institut & Central Market

On the 17th February 2010, my friends and I went to see the Kuala Lumpur Dreaming exhibition which is presented by The Annexe Gallery at Central Market, Kula Lumpur. This exhibition presented the vision of 30 artist and photographers, some local and foreigners who share their expression, elicit our imagination and appreciate one another dreams. What i found here is valuable experiences which I do not have much opportunity to have and to enjoy as Iam ignorant about arts. This may be the beginniing of my life to experience and appreciate more the arts and the diversity about it. There are lots of arts presented by the artist. Some of them are complicated and had a very deep meaning. How they blends the colours, the angle and the light, all the elements combined together on their own way, each gives new understanding into deep interpretation.

My attention was drawn to the black and white pictures by Vignes Balasingam primarily due by my own context as viewers to what i understand the representation of black and white which are the important elements in life about past and present, truth and lies, life and death, hope and dissapointment and good and evils. Some of it draws me so deep into thought and made me reflect about life. What the artist trying to portray to the viewers had keep me thinking that, somehow it is true that life out there is hard.
"Life out there is hard. But eventually you'll get used to it.. That is what scares me the most."

When we encounter a situation where we need to follow the flow of this life, somehow we lost our own integrity, we lose our own culture, and we give up the values inside us. when we eventually let it be like that, that is when we realise that we get used to it and we start to lose ourselves and we do not know what does actually we want and start questioning ourselves who am I? Thus, i have concluded that having principled in life and keeping it to ourselves is very important so we do not forget who we are and where we belong. If you are just a simple person, not rich nor poor and everything is just fine, or you are poor and had a hard life, its okay. Appreciate what we had that we are still alive until today and keep moving on. If we are rich and had everything we needed, cherished them and appreciate more. Be grateful so we will always feel content so we can keep ourselves on the right track.

Another piece which draws me on this exhibition are the second picture of Vignes Balasingam titled everything is temporary.
"Everything is temporary out here. Everything is a makeshift. A spoon, a fork and a plate. Security, happiness, sadness. Out here the meaning of life is lucid."

It is true that everything in this life is temporary. In life, what we need to continue living is all the basic necessity(food, shelter, family). When we had them, what we need next is to feel secure which from now and then, life promise nothing of it. Happiness and sadness, both blends together as an expression of emotion in life. People usually worried about what they eat, the security of their life, and the position they had in life, but life is not all about that. I believe that there are more in life that it cannot be explained and measured by materials or by any means. Life is an open context and it depends on us on how we see this life will determined on how we live our life.

There are numbers of arts which is very interesting to see and to understand the hidden meaning of it. Some of them are very easy to understand as it represent a simple interpretation but some had depth meaning and as we unearth them, they reveals a lot of confusion which lead to many answers.

AGAPE HOME

Man sleeping under the bridge

Some of the arts may had different interpretation and may not be the same as how others view it. The arts that i choose may be the easiest to understand but how is see them matters the most to me because they seem to be connected the way how I view this life. They reminds me of life. I appreciate life because for me it is the greatest gift i've ever had. What could I ask more and how could I not be grateful when I had everything in life. Life is a journey with changing events from time to time. All the arts are open to numbers of interpretation and meaning, and what I see in this exhibition so far is worthwhile.

Critical Thinking..

...extract from critical thinking  by Dr.Richard Van De Lagemaat...

- we can all too easily end up identifyong our own culture's way of looking at reality with the only possible way of looking at reality

- the business of constructing reality out of our own limited, fallible and sometimes jaundiced experience is an essentially moral task

- the single most effective way of moving towards a richer, more insightful, and generally more inclusive understanding of the world is to look at it from a variety of different perspectives

- Language is another powerful knowledge filter

- we are aware of the various ways in which our belief systems can be distorted and are occasionally willing to examine them,we are unlikely to rise above our own cultural prejudices and move towards a more inclusive understanding of humanity

- international education in general and critical thinking in particular can make a modest but significant contribution to making the world a safer and more tolerant place.

Emotive language...

- relies on the feelings and emotions associated with words rather than just their literal meanings to influence and persuade.
